Life Time Fitness recently acquired Twin Cities-based Massage Retreat & Spa, after its founder Lee Oberg, made the decision to sell the business, according to Amy Williams, manager of Life Time public relations.
Chanhassen-based Life Time now has assumed primary ownership and operational responsibility for the Eden Prairie, Edina, Plymouth, Savage, Shoreview and Woodbury Massage Retreat & Spa locations. The Maple Grove location has been franchised since 2013 and will remain a franchise.
Oberg had been a manager at Life Time before starting Massage Retreat & Spa.
According to its website, Massage Retreat & Spa offers massage, facials, spa packages, waxing, eyelash extensions, eyebrow and eyelash tinting and dermalogical products.
“One component of our overall Healthy Way of Life business is LifeSpa, which offers full-service hair care, nail care, skin care, massage and medispa services,” Williams said by email, adding that Life Time is the largest full-service spa-salon operator in North America via its LifeSpa business.
“It is with this in mind that we saw an opportunity to further extend our spa business and massage services, specifically,” Williams said, “right here in our home (and largest) market by adding these Massage Retreat & Spa locations to our overall portfolio of destinations, brands, products and services.”
Williams said that Massage Retreat & Spa customers should expect business as usual with plans to retain their current branding and services, while maintaining operations as a separate company within the overall Life Time portfolio.
“Over time, we also see opportunities to serve customers with additional spa and rejuvenation services at these locations,” Williams said.
Terms surrounding the business transaction are not being disclosed.
