Wood duck

Wood ducks inhabit wooded areas with ponds or lakes nearby.

Spring is a wonderful time of year. Especially right after the thick ice of winter melts off the ponds and small lakes.

And just like magic, as soon as the water is open, the ducks show up. For me, the first ducks of spring are the wood ducks (Aix sponsa).
