John Straka striking out 12 batters in a 117-pitch complete game. A performance seen before by Chaska fans more than a decade ago in a Hawks high school uniform.
This time, though, Straka was wearing a Chanhassen Red Birds uniform, his first season with the defending Class B State champions.
Straka was dominant, allowing just two batters to reach second base, one on a seventh-inning solo home run from Chaska catcher Matt Halloran.
Cubs left-hander Drake Kilber, a Chanhassen High School graduate, went pitch-for-pitch with Straka, holding the Red Birds' potent offense in check for eight innings.
Kilber scattered seven hits with three strikeouts, allowing a single earned run in the sixth inning on a Michael Jurgella single followed by a Nick Smith RBI-double.
The game was tied at one until the bottom of the ninth, a trio of Cubs errors, the final one on an overthrow of first base, allowing pinch runner Derek Smith to score with the walk-off win.
Chanhassen is now 11-3 overall, ranked No. 1 in the state.
Chaska is 16-3 overall, the No. 3 team in Class B.
Chanhassen was coming off a 6-4 loss to the St. Anthony Hogs of the Class A league. Riley Johnson was 2-for-5 with a home run and double, finishing with three RBIs.
Aaron Pfaff also collected three hits in four plate appearances with a walk. Of the six runs allowed, only one was earned.
The bats were alive for Chanhassen in a 12-2 win in eight innings over Champlin on June 25.
Brandon Arnold (2-for-4, double), Johnson (3-for-3, two runs), Jurgella (2-for-4, home run, four RBIs, three runs), Garrett Fischer (2-for-4, triple, double, three RBIs) were offensive leaders.
The Red Birds, down 2-0, scored four times in the third inning followed by three-run frames in the fifth and sixth.
Logan Spitzack struck out eight batters over five innings for the win. Matt Smith and Chris Choles worked the final three innings in scoreless relief.
Chanhassen, which started the month of July at Eagan and Prior Lake, return to Storm Red Bird Stadium at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 7 against Coon Rapids.
Chanhassen also plays at Burnsville's Alimagnet Park on July 9 at 7:30.
