Section 5AA Softball

Southwest Christian got a great game from pitcher Ella Schmidt, though were defeated 5-0 by Litchfield in the Section 5AA opener on May 20.

The Dragons were the Wright County Conference West Division champions.

Scoreless through four innings, Litchfield scored four runs, plenty enough behind Taylor Draeger's two-hitter.

Claire Larkin had a double and stolen base with Ava Thiewes adding a single for the Stars.

Schmidt recorded eight strikeouts, allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks.

Southwest Christian had a record of 2-17 this season.


Holy Family Catholic pounded out 10 hits, but Watertown-Mayer advanced in the Section 5AA opener in a 10-2 final on May 20.

Madelyn Vargo was 4-for-4 for the Royals with a double and three RBIs.

The Fire were 2-12 this season.

Advancing teams to the double elimination portion of the tournament were Maple Lake, Norwood Young America, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Rockford, Litchfield, Maranatha Christian, Watertown-Mayer, and the only lower-seeded team in Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted.
