Holy Family Catholic will send a contingent of 17 athletes in 13 events to the Section 2A Meet on Saturday, June 1 at Mankato West High School.
Seniors Grace Murphy and Zyler Niece advanced out of the sub-section meet at Glencoe-Silver Lake on Thursday, May 23, in multiple events.
Niece was third in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4:50.13, among four runners to qualify for sections. He finished the meet running the third leg of the 4x400 relay, joining Connor Chalmers, Sam Bradley and Joey Richelsen, a runner-up time of 3:37.14.
Murphy was third in long jump (15 feet, 10 inches) and in triple jump (31 1/2 feet), qualifying in both events.
The 4x800 boys relay of Dylan Ehlers, Ben Fink, Tyler Franck, and Joseph Freitas placed second in 9:34.37 with Patrick Ricke and Jaden Lorenz advancing in the 3,200 meters. Ricke was sub-section champion in 10:30.69 with Lorenz in fourth in 10:42.92.
In field events, Seth Thompson was champion in discus at 143 feet, one inch. Jakob Lenzmeier hit five feet, four inches, in high jump for third place.
Holy Family Catholic will have a pair of girls runners at sections with Evelyn Willenbring placing second in an even 13 seconds. Fellow senior Ellie Marschall was runner-up in the one mile in 5:48.59.
Sydney and Logan Paulsen advanced to sections as well in the pole vault and discus. Sydney was third at 8 1/2 feet on the vault with Logan placing fourth with a throw of 86 feet, two inches.
Section field events begin at 9:30 a.m. with preliminaries on the track at 10 a.m. and the finals at 11 a.m.
Six individual runs and two relays qualified from Southwest Christian for the Section 2 Meet on Saturday, June 1, at Mankato West High School.
Callie Coughlin in the 100 meters (12.8 seconds), Lauren Richards in the 200 meters (27.41) and the 4x100 relay of Callie Ertel, Richards, Samantha Anderson, and Coughlin (52.37) were sub-section champions May 23 in Glencoe.
Ertel, Richards and Coughlin were joined by Avery Tollefson in placing second in the 4x200 relay in 1:50.85.
Ertel, like Richards and Coughlin, will compete in a third running event at sections after placing fourth in the 200 meters in 28.24 seconds.
Southwest Christian will have a pair of boy athletes at the Section 2A Meet including Josiah Colman in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He was second in the 100 in 11.75 seconds and third in the 200 in 23.5 seconds.
Mason Beise also qualified in the 800 meters in a runner-up finish in 2:10.92.
A school record was broken in the discus event, a throw of 78 feet, five inches, from Anderson in the girls event.
Minnetonka won six events, finishing with multiple top finishes, at the home Rogness Relays on May 22.
Bryn Senske (five feet, two inches) and Chase McPherson (six feet) were high jump champions for the Skippers.
Max Lauerman scored a victory in the 1,600 meters in 4:31.81.
Minnetonka won three girls relay events -- the 4x200 (1:43.99), the 4x400 (4:04.31) and the 4x800 (9:30.77).
Brady Englehart was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (42.94) with Luke Hanson also hitting six feet in high jump and 39 feet, 7 3/4 inches, in triple jump; both second-place finishes.
Winnie Stone eclipsed the high jump bar at five feet for second place with Faith Robinson stretching the tape past 17 feet in long jump. Annika Muller was also second in triple jump at 34 feet, 8 1/4 inches.
Isabelle Melmer got out to 104 feet, seven inches, for a runner-up position in discus for Minnetonka, which compete Tuesday, May 28, in the Section 6AA preliminaries at Orono High School.
