The Chaska Circuit Breakers robotics team has earned its third consecutive trip the state First Lego League Robotics tournament.

The team has won awards for robot performance, programming, research project, and head-to-head competition so far this year, according to a press release.

There are more than 255,000 kids in 88 countries involved in First Lego League – and there are more than 600 teams in Minnesota. Only about 10 percent of teams make it to the State Championship, which is in St. Paul on Feb. 23.

This year’s theme is “Into Orbit” and for their project they designed a 3D virtual reality world called "Project Mirage" to help solve the problem of astronaut boredom. The VR world includes games, movies, music, training modules and communication tools, along with the “SpaceBook” app where astronauts can connect with their family and friends on Earth.

The team designed and programmed a 2D prototype website of the project (with the help of Code Ninjas in Chanhassen).
