Last Saturday, 28 Chaska High School Speech Team entries competed at the MSHSL 2AA Section tournament in Hutchinson.
These entries had advanced from subsections, held at Mankato East on March 23. Of the 28 entries, 18 advanced to the final round. Seven placed in the top three overall, and will be competing at the MSHSL State Tournament hosted by Wayzata High School on Saturday, April 13.
Of the entries continuing to state, four were section category champions. This is the most section champions Chaska Speech has ever had, according to a press release. Chaska also placed 2nd in Overall Team Sweepstakes at sections.
“Part of the excitement surrounding our state competitors is that it includes one reigning state champion (Josiah Chock in Storytelling), one other returning state competitor, three senior competitors who have never competed at state, one novice team member, plus a junior and a sophomore who have never competed at state,” stated a press release. “It will be very exciting to have these students compete at Wayzata High School next Saturday.”
“We also learned this past week that Chaska Speech won the Metro West Conference Championship. This is the fourth straight year that Chaska Speech has earned this honor.”
“The team and coaching staff could not be more incredibly proud of both the students advancing, and those for whom the season is done. This season has been one for the record books, and everyone has contributed to the ground-breaking success of Chaska Speech this year, the release stated.
“We are so excited to see what the future holds for the students competing at both state and national tournaments, and are unbelievably proud of every single team member.”
