The Chaska Speech Team competed at the Eagan Invitational Tournament last weekend.
The team was smaller than usual due to impending winter weather. However, the team placed higher than it did last year when most of the team was in attendance.
Highlights include Joe Klinker placing second in Humor, earning his second NIETOC national tournament bid and qualifying for the national tournament.
On Friday, Chaska Speech had 15 students compete in the preliminary rounds for NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) National Qualifiers.
There are both semifinal rounds and then final rounds, and if a student places in the top three competitors in the final round, they qualify for the NSDA National Tournament. This is an incredibly difficult tournament, as each team sends its best to compete.
After a grueling day of competition, Chaska Speech had nine competitors advance into the March 12 semifinal rounds.
“The team continues to impress, and we are all incredibly excited to see what the team continues to have in store as we wrap up an amazing season,” stated a press release.
