On April 13, eight members of the Chaska Speech Team competed at the MSHSL State AA Tournament at Wayzata High School.

Students were competing with the top 24 students from throughout the state in each of the categories. After three preliminary rounds of competition, three Chaska students advanced to the final round of competition in each of their categories. Advancing to finals (top 8) were Sadie Oster in Creative Expression; Sydney Turner in Poetry; and Josiah Chock in Storytelling, according to a press release.

At a ceremony that evening, medals were awarded and state champions were named. Sadie Oster placed 5th in Creative Expression, Sydney Turner placed 3rd in Poetry.

For the second year in a row, Josiah Chock was named state champion in Storytelling. This is the first time that Chaska High School Speech has had a repeat state champion in any speech category.

“We could not be prouder of our team and the season they have had. Having state finalists and a state champion are truly the “icing on the cake” for this incredible season,” the release stated. “Seeing the hard work, dedication, commitment, and passion of the 63 students on this team makes us excited not only for the future of this team, but the future in general.”
