At the East Ridge Raptor Invitational in Woodbury, the Chaska Speech Team had 22 entries advance to a final round, which is more than twice as many as last year. It placed 6th out of 34 teams.

“We were competing against some of the largest, most competitive teams in the state,” stated a press release.

Several students earned their second NIETOC National Tournament bid, thus qualifying for the NIETOC National Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska in May: Kendall Benson in Prose, Sydney Turner in Prose, Kendall Benson and Lucy Browning in Duo, Ekaanth Veerakumar and Aravis Pennucci in Duo, and Evelyn Chock in Humor. They join Jeremiah Cox in Original Oratory and Josiah Chock and Evelyn Chock in Duo.

“We continue to be incredibly impressed with the amount of hard work, time, and effort each member of the team dedicates every week. The team could not be prouder of their performance this weekend,” the release stated.

Novice Finals: Khyndall Larson, 1st in Creative Expression; Cyn-Ean Yu, 2nd in Drama; Kareem Taha, 2nd in Storytelling; Cyn-Wei Tan, 3rd in Prose; Ena Dirks, 6th in Drama; Lauren Oster, 7th in Discussion.

Varsity Finals: Faith Peterson, 5th in Poetry; Kendall Benson and Lucy Browning, 6th in Duo; Sydney Turner, 6th in Prose; Jeremiah Cox, 7th in Informative.

Varsity Honor Finals: Jeremiah Cox, 2nd in Original Oratory; Sydney Turner, 2nd in Poetry; Ellie Bergum, 3rd in Creative Expression; Brenna Mathers, 3rd in Great Speeches; Josiah Chock, 4th in Storytelling; Kendall Benson, 5th in Prose; Jeremiah Cox, 6th in POI (Program Oratory Informative); Diego Symouksavanh, 6th in Creative Expression; Evelyn Chock, 7th in Humor; Parker Wright, 7th in Storytelling.

Varsity Merit Finals: Josiah Chock and Evelyn Chock, 2nd in Duo.

Varsity Consolation Finals: Ekaanth Veerakumar and Aravis Pennucci, 3rd in Duo.

The team travels to a tournament at Eastview High School in Apple Valley on Saturday.
