The “Universe of Stories” youth summer program rocks and rolls on with the kid-friendly music of The Bazillions, performing at Carver County Library.
With fun, clever lyrics and rocking guitars, the Bazillions will make you wonder how you ever thought learning about perimeter and area could be anything but a blast!
Experience the Bazillions at the Victoria Library on Monday, July 8, at 1 p.m. They will also appear at the Chanhassen Library on Tuesday, July 9 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the Chaska Library on Wednesday, July 10 at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The Reading List Council recently announced the 2019 selections of the Reading List, an annual best-of list comprised of eight different fiction genres for adult readers. A shortlist of honor titles, up to four per genre, was also announced.
The winner for horror was “The Silent Companions” by Laura Purcell. Some doors are locked for a reason, especially when a Victorian ghost story that evokes a most unsettling kind of fear. The is a tale that creeps its way through the consciousness in ways you least expect, much like the spooky companions themselves. The books on the horror short list were “Awakened” by James S. Murray, “Bad Man” by Dathan Auerbach, “The Cabin at the End of the World” by Paul Tremblay and “Melmoth” by Sarah Perry.
Tails for Reading: 10:30 to noon, Saturday, July 6. Preschool and elementary school age children are welcome to read books aloud to specially trained therapy dogs to encourage confidence in reading. Presented by North Star Therapy Animals. Children read for a 15-minute session on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration required.
Man in the Moon and Aliens Too! Storytime: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 10. Come and explore the changing moon through stories, songs and crafts! You won’t be alone with storytime friends and maybe an alien or two.
Pop-Up Booksale: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10. Come browse Friends of the Chaska Library pop up book sales at the Chaska Farmer’s Markets in the Chaska City Hall parking lot.

Children’s Shady Time Book Exchange: Starting Monday, July 8 bring in a book for exchange, then come back on Monday, July 15 to pick out a book to keep.
Family Storytimes: For all ages, with a focus on children age 2 and up. Children, parents and their caregivers are invited to share 30 minutes of singing, playing, reading, writing and talking that encourages the development of early literacy skills. Toddler Storytimes: Toddlers and their caregivers are welcome to join us for 20 minutes of action-packed fun with stories, rhymes, fingerplays and musical movement for this age group. Lapsit Storytime: For ages birth to 18 months. Babies and their caregivers share quality time in a 20-minute session designed to encourage language development through board books and movement activities, followed by time for visiting and play. Chanhassen Library: 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
