Holy Family Catholic scored four first-inning runs, adding four more when the lead shrunk to two, in an 8-2 win over Rockford in the second round of the Section 5AA baseball bracket May 28 at Diethelm Park in Victoria.

PJ Barrett threw six innings, holding the Rockets to three hits along with Casey Gess, who finished off the game in the seventh on the mound.

Barrett, Spencer Lewin, Jacob Konz, and Bryce Richter each collected two hits. Richter drove in a team-high three runs.

Holy Family Catholic, now 12-6-1 overall, is one of four teams remaining in the winners bracket.

The second-seeded Fire face No. 3 Providence Academy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Vollmer Field in Glencoe.

Kaden Czech allowed nine hits and 11 runs for Southwest Christian, which lost in a walk-off with two outs in the fifth inning.

Gabe Roepke with three hits and Chandler Glaeser with four RBIs were offensive leaders for the Panthers.

Southwest Christian (13-6-1) plays a rubber match in the elimination bracket with Norwood Young America at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in Litchfield.

The Central Raiders were defeated 10-0 by top seed Litchfield on May 28.
