Defeating Holy Family Catholic by 12 goals in the final week of the regular season, Chaska backed up that effort May 28 in the girls Section 2 opener.

Behind four goals from leading scorer Payton Schultz, the Hawks picked up win No. 5 on the season in a 17-3 final.

Chaska, the No. 8 seed, travels to top-ranked Eden Prairie at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.

Nicole Jernander added her first career hat trick for the Hawks with Kennedy Sanders and Kate Perrill each finding the net twice.

Other goal scorers for Chaska were Sydney Hardy, Elise Pritchard, Bella Bowman, Lexi Bauman, and Ella Long.

Megan Jirele stopped 11 shots for the Hawks in the home finale.

Holy Family Catholic, with eight seniors, finished the season with a 3-11 record.

BOYS: Southwest Christian 8, Holy Family Catholic 3

A wild high-scoring regular season game won by Southwest Christian in the final minute, this time around the Stars won using defense, an 8-3 decision over Holy Family Catholic in the Section 2 boys opener May 28.

It was the playoff debut for the second-year Southwest Christian program.

A one-goal game at halftime, the Stars netted five consecutive tallies in the second half to pull away.

Kellen Baklund netted a pair of goals for Holy Family with Lucas Witczek also scoring in the first quarter.

No scoring was available for Southwest Christian (5-9), which is at top-seeded Minnetonka at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.
