Dear Readers,
We are all crushed this morning (Nov. 13) by the passing of Kinga’s dad, Laszlo Kocsis.
He was just shy of 102. Truly amazing man. Served in the Hungarian Air Force in WWII.
Fled Hungary with his family in tow in 1956 at age 37 and started from scratch in
South Bend, Indiana. An excellent husband to wife Clara and an exemplary father to
Gabriella, Kinga, Laszlo, Catalina and Tomas. When he was about 96 he told me he
credited his longevity and good health to the fact that he did not worry because all of
his children were happy and successful (a doctor, 3 engineers and a registered nurse).
The promise of America was a promise kept. Huge Notre Dame football fan.
Quit smoking when he was 75. Very proud of his Hungarian heritage and visited there
often. Popular with his Hungarian friends in the South Bend area. But he will be mostly
remembered as a soft spoken and thoughtful man of great integrity and industry.
I will personally miss his friendship, counsel and kindness. Even though he was old,
the void created by his passing is enormous. May he rest in peace.
Thanks, Dave
