Eden Prairie Schools’ robotics team will advance to a championship competition in Detroit next month after winning an award this weekend, according to a news release from Eden Prairie Schools.

The team, called Talon, came in eighth overall at last weekend’s 10,000 Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics competition at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, the release says. The team lost in the quarterfinal match but earned the Engineering Inspiration Award, which will propel the 24 students to the FIRST World Championships in Detroit next month, on April 24-27, the release notes.

Additionally, team member Isaac Ash-Johnson earned a spot as a Dean’s List finalist, which recognizes his passion for robotics.

The Talon Robotics team began in 2007 with five Eden Prairie High School students who wanted to form a robotics team, Talon’s website says. It now has 40 members.
