FSC Scholarship Winner

Brendan Weed, center, receives his scholarship award from SPIRE Credit Union.

An Eden Prairie student has won a $1,000 scholarship from the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Council, according to a news release from SPIRE Credit Union.

Brendan Weed submitted an essay to the contest, which asked students to reflect on community service. He wrote about his time volunteering at Eden Prairie's PROP Shop, a resale store and nonprofit serving the southwest suburbs. the release says.

"My attitude needed to stay positive not only for the families, but I also needed to persevere for my co-volunteers to complete the deliveries," Weed wrote. He learned that the families that the PROP Shop serves "choose to stay positive and not dwell on misfortunes. The volunteer work I had done did not reinforce boundaries, but rather bridged individuals.”

A total of $12,000 was awarded to 10 scholarship recipients from Minnesota-based credit unions, the release says.
