The Eden Prairie School District will host Jeff Duncan-Andrade, associate professor of Raza Studies and Education at San Francisco State University, for a free community event on Aug. 29. 

The Eden Prairie School District is hosting a free event for the community, "Equality or Equity: Which One Will We Feed? with Jeff Duncan-Andrade.

The event is slated for 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Eden Prairie High School, 17185 Valley View Road. Duncan-Andrade is associate professor of Raza Studies and Education at San Francisco State University; founder of the Roses in Concrete Community School, a community responsive lab school in East Oakland, the Teaching Excellence Network and the Community Responsive Education Group.

"Attendees will learn about issues facing today’s underprivileged youth and families, hear examples of how our community and schools can partner to address issues facing our youth and gain a better understanding of our community’s role in supporting youth and families," according to a news release.

Duncan-Andrade has authored two books, several journal articles and book chapters on effective practices in schools and lectures around the world. He's been a classroom teacher and school leader in East Oakland for the past 24 years, the district said.
