Despite a steady downpour, a large crowd gathered at the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial in Purgatory Creek Park on Monday for the annual Memorial Day Ceremony.

The event was abridged due to the rain, with the honoree introductions of Lou Ellingson, Jim McDougall and Art Peterson postponed.

However, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Kevin Rofidal, chair of the Veterans Memorial Committee, noted that it was a long-standing tradition to hold Eden Prairie Memorial Day ceremonies, regardless of the weather.

The Rev. Rod Anderson gave the invocation at the event, which included “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” sung by Nikki Allen Rau.

The Viking Squadron Civil Air Patrol posted the colors in the pouring rain.
