As the sun was beating down and temperatures reached the 90s, campers at Minneapolis Southwest KOA campground in Jordan were thinking of cooler things.
The campground celebrated Christmas in July on Saturday with Christmas-themed activities for children.
An inflatable Santa Claus and reindeer, penguin and Olaf from “Frozen” welcomed campers to the main office, and campers were encouraged to bring their own Christmas decorations to spruce up their campsite.
Staff helped children make wreaths out of paper plates, luminaries using tea light candles and paper bags, and delicious graham cracker gingerbread houses.
In the afternoon, children gathered to hear the story of the Wright family. Children were given a package to hold, and every time the words “Wright,” “right” or “left” were read, the children would pass the package to the person to their right or left, and at the end, everyone walked away with some savory sweets.
As the evening drew to a close, it was time for wagon rides around the campground and an ice cream social with strawberry, orange and root beer floats, ice cream cones and peppermint candy.
