Thank you for publishing the MinnPost article "What the federal climate report says about the Midwest" (Jordan Independent, Jan 10).
The report, recently released by the Trump administration, is dire and clear that we are seeing the impacts of climate change already and it will get worse in the near future. This is no longer a far off possibility, it is a close up reality. The impacts to agriculture alone should be of great concern to our region.
Fortunately the situation is not all doom and gloom. The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act is a bipartisan bill that was introduced in the last Congress and will soon be re-introduced in the new Congress.
The policy in this bill has wide support from both sides of the aisle, most economists, and even industry heavy weights such as Exxon. It is a market-based solution that is effective, good for the economy, and will actually put a little money in your pocket on a regular basis.
I encourage everyone to educate themselves about the bill (https://energyinnovationact.org/). Protecting our environment for future generations is not a red or blue issue and requires a bipartisan solution. We're all in the same boat here. Let's row together.
