Letter to editor stock art - row of mailboxes

I just saw your article in the about the Minneapolis coach who was offended by the pro-Trump sign at a game.

Our Constitution guarantees our freedom of speech. That’s apparently what STUDENTS were doing at their own school! I applaud these students for standing up for their political beliefs rather than shrinking back because someone might be offended. And I appreciate the end quote in your story, including, “It’s because Jordan is an ideologically diverse school and we embrace that.”

I hope the Jordan School District rightly and justly weighs its students’ rights to advocate for what they believe is right, even when it doesn’t conform to the naysayers. Because freedom of speech is their constitutional right.

Also, the Jordan School District is not subject to any other school district, so as they investigate this matter, I hope they do not feel that they need to kowtow to a larger, more vocal district in the name of “not wanting to offend anyone.”
