Authorities are investigating the Aug. 26 death of an 18-month-old child in foster care at a home on Morlock Drive in Sand Creek Township, just outside of Jordan.
Scott County Dispatch received a call that the baby was having trouble breathing, so deputies and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to find an unresponsive child, according to a press release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.
The baby was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, where she died.
The baby had been place in foster care at a residence on Morlock Drive through Hennepin County. Currently, there are no other children at that residence, according to the release.
The Sheriff’s office was notified Aug. 28 that the child died.
“We are unable to provide additional details at this time as this is an ongoing, active investigation,” Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen said. “Our investigators are working hard to obtain answers regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Jordan Police Department, Jordan Fire Department and Allina Ambulance at the scene. Scott County Human Services, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are also assisting in the investigation.
