Thomas Gutzmer

Jordan senior Thomas Gutzmer gets out of the bunker at the par 3, 14th hole at Ridges at Sand Creek during the second round of the Class 2A state golf tournament.

Jordan senior Thomas Gutzmer wrapped up his high school career with a great performance at the Class 2A state golf tournament.

Gutzmer finished in a tie for fourth place at the Ridges at Sand Creek on Wednesday when he shot 149 (74-75) over the two-round tournament.

The tie for fourth place is the best finish ever by a Jordan golfer at the state tournament.

Red Wing's Cecil Belisle won the Class 2A individual state title with a score of 143 (74-69). Hill-Murray's Ben Warian was second with a 145 (73-72) followed by St. Peter's Carter Doose with a 148 (74-74).

In his second round, Gutzmer birdied the 13th hole and the 17th hole and had a chance to finish his round and career with back-to-back birdies but his birdie putt on 18 lipped out.

Gutzmer will take his golf talents to St. John's next season after having one of the most decorated golf careers at Jordan in school history.

He leaves Jordan with the highest individual finish at the state tournament in school history, three individual state appearances, two-time Minnesota River Conference MVP, six-time All-Conference selection and team captain.

Gutzmer also played in two state football tournaments and a state basketball tournament.
