Rescue Day

Participate in Chuck & Don’s #RescuedByPets in honor of October’s National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month campaign. Winners will receive a $250 gift card to the store.

October marks the beginning of autumn in earnest and the favorite holiday of kids and kids-at-heart everywhere. Yet it is also the month of several important awareness initiatives: breast cancer, bullying prevention, and dyslexia to name a few. It is also National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and local Chuck & Don’s stores have partnered with area shelters to educate and bring attention to animals in need of loving homes.

The destination pet supply store has launched a social media campaign to run throughout the month, highlighting the impact of rescue pets on the people who adopt them.

During October, pet owners can submit a photo or video explaining how their rescued pet has changed their lives for the better on social media, using the hashtag #RescuedByPets. The campaign also applies to more than dogs– cats and other small animals are welcomed to star as well.

At the end of the month, Chuck & Don’s will choose one submission to receive a $250 gift card to any of its 24 Twin Cities locations. The rescue organization from which the submission’s featured pet was adopted will also receive a $250 gift card.

“Our team understands the significance of the bond between pets and their owners,” said Bob Hartzell, president of Chuck & Don’s. “With this campaign we hope to highlight those bonds and show the impact pet adoption has on people, too.”

According to data gathered from Animal Humane Societies, they saw a total intake of 2,398 animals in the month of August; 1,888 were adopted. Animals end up in shelters for a variety of reasons, and they include stray animals picked up from the streets, animals that are surrendered by owners in circumstances ranging from a move that does not allow pets to a child who is allergic to pet dander, and animals who are taken from their former owners following instances of abuse, cruelty or neglect.

“We wanted to do something on social media, and to see how that would develop,” said Chuck & Don’s Amy Martel. “We’re hoping this will raise awareness for all animals in need of homes.”
