For the ninth consecutive year, the Minnesota Department of Education honored Orono Schools with a School Finance Award. The award is presented to school districts that exhibit fiscal health and sound fiscal management and accountability.
MDE staff reviews local publications, audit reports and thousands of pieces of fiscal data on reporting districts to determine the award winners. Information submitted by the district includes documentation of compliance with state statues on selected finance issues and demonstration of fiscal health in the local setting.
“Receiving recognition for a job well done is nice,” said Director of Business Services Tom Stringer, “but this award goes far beyond a pat on the back. The application process provides another independent view of our financial operation. The fact that we have been recognized affirms our school board’s commitment to careful stewardship of public resources.”
“Through the Character Counts! program, the school board and our administrative team have been trained in ‘Living Up to the Public Trust,’” added Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Orcutt. “We’re grateful to receive this authentication of our accountability to stakeholders.”
