WAYZATA — Wayzata is hosting a party to kick off the official start to summer.
The Lake Minnetonka Summer Splash, which runs from June 21-23, will feature art, sailing, food, alcohol, live music and other activities in downtown Wayzata and in Lake Minnetonka’s Wayzata Bay.
Here’s a list of events happening throughout Wayzata:
Wayzata Art Experience
The Wayzata Art Experience boasts more than 100 fine artists from across the country for people to browse their art and pick up something for their collection. In addition to the artwork, there will be food trucks, beer and wine, and a family activity zone all along Lake Street in downtown Wayzata.
The family activity zone will feature a variety of family friendly activities, including face painting, programming from the YMCA, the Minnetonka Center for the Arts and the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
The Wayzata Art Experience is from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.

Wayzata Match Cup
The Wayzata Match Cup is a sailing event being held on Wayzata Bay, from Thursday, June 20, through Sunday, June 23. The event will feature world-class match racing teams in 60-foot-tall M32 catamarans.
The goal of the event is to feature world-class sailing in Minnesota. It is organized by professional sailor Sam Rogers. The race’s website is www.wayzatamatchcup.com.
In addition to the Wayzata Match Cup, there will be two major sailing regattas happening on Wayzata Bay during the Summer Splash weekend.
Free sailboat rides
Wayzata Community Sailing Center will be offering free sailboat rides from the Broadway Docks on Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
The Whispering Cave will host a free yoga session at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the Depot Park.
Free live music
There will be various opportunities for people to take in live music for free. Here’s a list:
- The Tuxedo Band will be performing at a free kick-off concert at Depot Park on Wednesday, June 19, from 7-8:30 p.m.
- Live music at the Wayzata Art Experience on Lake Street on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Sunday, June 23, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
- The Wailing Loons, a folk-rock group, will perform a free show at the Great Lawn (near Hotel Landing) from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.
Bash for the Boardwalk
Bash for the Boardwalk is a lakeside concert outside Wayzata Boatworks, with proceeds from the event benefiting the Wayzata Lake Effect Project.
Jerrod Niemann will perform Friday, June 21, with doors opening at 5 p.m. Tickets are $28 in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets are available at bashfortheboardwalk.com.
The Wayzata Lake Effect Project is a proposed park along Wayzata’s lakefront that aims to reconnect residents to Lake Minnetonka.
