Barbara G. Chadwick, age 82, of Chanhassen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Hennepin County Health Center.
Barbara was born on November 14, 1936 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Helen and Gerald Franke. She had a good mind and a kind heart, especially for children and animals.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Chadwick, and children, Damien (Deborah) Chadwick, Manette (Patrick) Chadwick, Victoria (Ross) Jacobson, Valorie (Darrin) Rosha, Justin Chadwick, and her adored (and spoiled) dog, Treena; grandchildren, Aaron Jacobson, Casey Jacobson, Madison Chadwick, Max Chadwick, Evalyn Rosha, Joseph Rosha, Elisabeth Rosha; and her sister, Elizabeth Richter.
Barbara obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. Throughout her extensive career, she was committed to assisting children at adoption agencies and as a guardian ad litem in court. She also supported women by identifying and providing safehouses and by working as a mental health counselor at the Chrysalis Center. While her children were in school, she worked closely with local school board members. As a member of the League of Women Voters, she fought tirelessly for causes that were important to her.
Travel was an important part of her life, as she and Richard enjoyed many cruises to exotic places around the world, 25 winters in the Florida Keys and most recently, three months this past winter in San Diego County. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed participating in book clubs with her very dear friends. Throughout her life she treasured the company of her children, and her many pets including her horses, dogs and cats. She remained active her entire life, snow skiing, waterskiing, snorkeling, and riding horses into her seventies.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Barbara was a generous spirit, and as her last gift, chose to help others by participating in the University of Minnesota Medical School's Anatomy Bequest Program, supporting high quality education for future health professionals and continued advancements in medical care through research, teaching, and other good purposes as the school may determine.
The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation for the many words of support, prayers, cards, phone calls and baked goods from family and friends.
