Obituary for Daralene C. Lein

Dar Lein, 89, of Prior Lake, MN, died peacefully in the presence of her family on January 9, 2022 of complications from Lewy body dementia.

Daralene Carol Corcoran was born on February 4, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN, the only child of Frank and Louise (Hamann) Corcoran. As a child, Dar’s family moved to Easton, MN, where she went to Easton Public School until 8th grade. Afterwards, she graduated from Delavan High School.

While working in Easton as a switchboard operator, she met a handsome electrician who came in often to place calls, William “Bill” Lein. They eloped November 3rd, 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma during his Army training.

In the early years of their marriage, Dar and Bill spent a lot of time in Easton. They built a house there and started Easton Electric. Throughout their marriage, Dar was the accountant for Bill’s business. When they moved to Prior Lake in 1966, they bought land in Credit River Township and built a house. This was their home for 56 years.

Although Dar and Bill were both only children, they were blessed with 6 children, 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. They had 69 years of marriage together.

Daralene was the true matriarch of the family. She was the vivacious glue that held everyone together. Dar was selfless and generous in her time and love. She had special relationships with her grandchildren and cared for them often. Dar kept a book of their cute childhood sayings that is still a precious family keepsake. She was hard-working and thrived on activity.

Dar embodied the virtue of hospitality. She loved people and had a heart for visiting and entertaining. Dar and Bill had many life-long friends and she loved having company. She enjoyed playing games through her whole life, from Bingo on the radio to Bingo at the V.F.W. in her later years.

For the family, Christmas and birthdays were treasured memories. Ema (as she was called once grandkids arrived) would throw a Christmas Eve extravaganza each year with a packed house. She excelled at cake making and decorating and put her skills to good use for birthday celebrations.

Dar was an avid bowler for over 50 years and traveled out of state for tournaments. She enjoyed golf and in her early years, even played a little softball! She was a talented seamstress, knitter and crafter. Dar had cats throughout her lifetime and cherished them.

Dar was proud to be the grandmother of 13 Eagle Scouts and 1 Girl Scout Gold Award recipient. For many years, she sewed the patches on the Eagle Scout jackets for Troop 331.

Dar and Bill were charter members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Prior Lake. They were long-time members of a couples Bible study group that made lasting memories. She was the treasurer of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, sewed the baptism banners and helped with church fundraisers. She loved serving as a volunteer at the St. Francis Hospital gift shop and was an election judge in Scott County for many elections.

Her last months were blessed by her caregivers at The Moments, memory care in Lakeville.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Dobberstein; her husband, Bill; and her parents.

Left to mourn her death are her children, Brad (Michele) Lein, Brian (Brenda) Lein, Brett (Leslie) Lein, Barb (Michael) DeRosier, and Bob (Mary) Lein; son-in-law, Jon Dobberstein; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Prior Lake. A private celebration of life will take place at Holy Cross on January 22 and interment at Credit River Cemetery will follow.
