Dennis D. Johnson, age 78, of Prior Lake, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
Dennis was born in Minneapolis, August 20, 1940. He attended Richfield High School, immediately followed by a four year enlistment in the US Marine Corps. Three months after his honorable discharge, his younger brother Dorrian introduced him to Ramona Klimek at their parents home on a Sunday afternoon. Three months later they were married. They remained happily married for the next 56 years. He built their lifelong home in Burnsville, where they raised their three children, Denise, Darnel and Dennis.
Dennis began working as a self-employed siding applicator with his father until his father's retirement, and continued this profession until his own retirement.
Back in 1971, he found and fell in love with a little knotty-pine cabin on Prior Lake. They summered there until they retired in 2000. They then tore it down and built their retirement home, which they still lived in today.
After taking a scenic retirement trip, and deciding they wanted to winter in AZ, they purchase their snowbird home in Mesa.
Retirement meant they now became Daycare Providers for their grandchildren and he finally got the nickname Buddy. It was not uncommon to find him at the local Ice Arena, Soccer Fields, Gym or Waterski Show. He enjoyed watching any sporting event his grandchildren participated in, and was so glad the Twins were finally having a winning season.
In Dennis own words: A guy only lives once, you've gotta enjoy it!
Dennis is survived by his wife, Ramona; children, Denise (Daniel) Hennen, Darnel (Robb) Matheson, and Dennis (Michelle DeGregoris); grandchildren, Danielle, Shelby, and Drew Hennen, Denetre Stetz, Darian, Deyton, and Deston Slama, Alyssa Johnson (Samuel Riedeman); great-grandchildren, Halen Keating, Crue and Henley Stetz; siblings, Dorrian (Patty), Jeannine, Debe (Richard) Kot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Helga; siblings, Donald and Dianne; great-granddaughter, Peyton Anderson.
