Frank Schmaltz, age 80, entered into eternal life on Friday, June 7, 2019 surrounded by his wife and family.
Frank was born March 7, 1939 in Hague, ND the son of Aloysious and Magdalena Schmaltz. After graduating high school he entered the United States Army where he served as a company clerk. He married Patty Leary in 1960 they had four wonderful daughters and had a beautiful 59 year marriage. Frank was so proud and nurturing to his daughters and they adored him and each formed their own beautiful relationship. Frank was full of charisma and possessed an independent entrepreneurial spirit. He owned several businesses in Bismarck, ND and retired after a career in the food brokerage business before he and Patty moved to Shakopee in 2000 to be close to their new granddaughter. Two more grandchildren followed and Frank doted on them like they were the only three people on earth. Frank loved to fish, hunt and play Pinochle but best of all he loved visiting over a good meal and some beverages with friends and family. Frank had a tremendous wit and kindness that let you know he genuinely cared about you and everyone he met.
Frank is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty; daughters, Mickey, Colleen Reid (Bill), Kathleen and Jody O'Brien (Scott); grandchildren, John Zacher, Madeline, Allison and Luke O'Brien; brothers, Al, Jerry, Tom, Dan and Patrick; sisters, Lil, Janice, Marge, Carole, Bernice and Marlene. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard, Chuck, George, Virgil and Jim.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by Celebration of Life at 11 a.m., all held at Church of St. Mary, 535 Lewis Street South, Shakopee. In lieu of flowers, family preferred memorials to Shakopee Area Catholic School, Shakopee. Presiding was Reverend Erik Lundgren. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Hauer and Tom Schmaltz. Pallbearers are Scott O'Brien, Jim O'Brien, Bill Reid, Mark Elwood, Mike Lucarelli, and Shannon Braun.
