Families in Prior Lake-Savage Area elementary schools could see their children's schools switch in the coming years.
The newly named Hamilton Ridge Elementary School is set to open fall 2020, and attendance boundaries will shift for all of the elementary schools that school year. All district families will be invited to share their thoughts on the boundaries at a public information session at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Prior Lake High School.
The new boundaries are the district's attempt to ease the burden of over capacity schools and plan for projected growth on the district's north side, according to a news release from the district.
Under the current boundaries, Redtail Ridge and the Spanish immersion program, La Ola Del Lago, are over capacity, according to the district. Grainwood Elementary isn't far behind at 96 percent capacity.
The district also convened an input team of parents, staff members and city representatives for the new boundaries design process.
The group is considering a variety of orientation options, though there are some consistencies across plans. Each of the district's models includes Grainwood Elementary becoming the home of the Spanish immersion program and Edgewood Elementary becoming a district wide pre-kindergarten center.
