A great selection of beers isn't the only thing to consider when heading out to a local brewery this summer.

Here's what's on the menu for taproom games around the southwest metro:

Medieval Madness

The Medieval Madness pinball game was released in 1997 and the colorful, castle-themed arcade game is one of many games brewery-goers can play at Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company in downtown Prior Lake.

Another colorful game that attracts players at Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company is Tri-Wheel.

Tri-Wheel is Minnesota's first and only authorized table game to be played in bars and taverns, according to the game's website. The game is designed to encourage social interaction among bar-goers.

Another traditional brewery pastime is also on the floor at Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company — shuffleboard.

Shuffleboard dates back to 15th century England and a variation of the game is popular in taprooms today.

During the late 19th century, table shuffleboard tournaments were highly publicized and regularly occupied as much space as prizefighting and baseball in New York City newspapers, according to Shuffleboard.net — an online shuffleboard dealer.

Table shuffleboard can be played with one-on-one, two-on-two, or tournament-style in teams.

Table shuffleboard can also be played at Shakopee Brewhall and Schram Haus Brewery in Chaska.

Beer in one hand, bean bag in the other. Cornhole, also called bag toss, is a classic lawn game brought indoors at Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company. The more serious bag-tosser can even join a brewery league.

Trivia and bingo

If live competition is more your style, trivia competitions are held at Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company, Shakopee Brewhall and Schram Haus Brewery.

Shakopee Brewhall hosts Trivia Mafia at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and prizes are sponsored by Turtle's Bar and Grill. Bingo is played at 6:30 p.m. on most Wednesdays. A current schedule of events is available on the brewery's Facebook page.

Board games

Last but not least — board games.

Badger Hill Brewing in Shakopee, Boathouse Brothers Brewing Company, Shakopee Brewhall and Schram Haus Brewery all have supply of popular and unusual board games.
