Dakotah! Sport and Fitness in Prior Lake will host a blood drive April 25, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announced this week.

Those interested can schedule an appointment with Memorial Blood Centers at with the sponsor code 1637, according to a news release. Walk-ins will also be welcome 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The harsh winter weather has decreased nationwide blood supplies, according to the release, and all blood types and platelets are needed.

Blood donors must be in good health and at least 17 years old — 16 with parent consent — and weigh at least 110 pounds. The Mdewakanton community said the process should take about 45 minutes per person.

Memorial Blood Centers, the American Red Cross and other groups regularly host blood drives in the area. The blood centers provide blood to hospitals around Minnesota and western Wisconsin, according to their website.
