We have a terrific congressman representing us in Washington D.C. Rep. Jason Lewis has proven himself to be a top leader in his freshman year, moving legislation that are priorities in the 2nd Congressional District. Several areas stand out as accomplishments. He is working to improve our juvenile justice system, defend our constitutional rights and protect our hard-earned dollars, all issues which affect each citizen in the district.
Rep. Lewis has earned the respect of Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mike Mulvaney for his outstanding ability to dissect the issues surrounding the national budget. Who in their lifetime ever thought the Department of Defense would come under audit and be held accountable for its budget? It will be now, thanks to Lewis’s efforts and support.
Any student of the Constitution would be encouraged by the representative's understanding of the source of our freedoms and his ability to translate that knowledge into sensible legislation. For example, Lewis has offered up legislation that upholds the Fourth Amendment and makes government accountable for warrant-less searches. Our Tenth Amendment rights guide Lewis's efforts to balance federal, state and local control over the emerging technology of drone use.
And Lewis speaks for all of us who want to improve the justice system that can deny deserving young people a second chance.
When Rep. Lewis was elected, I was excited about his going to Washington D.C. Now that he has his first year under his belt, and seeing what has already been accomplished, I am confident that his second year will be even more productive.
