A Prior Lake man died after an apparent fatal attack over the weekend while vacationing near Cancun, Mexico, according to a GoFundMe page and multiple media reports.
After Artem Moskovkin, 30, died, his brother Igor Moskovkin told KARE 11 his family has few answers on the circumstances of his death because the hotel staffers who'd found his unconscious body allegedly failed to report the incident to police.
Family and friends told KARE 11 Moskovkin may have fallen from the hotel balcony.
Igor Moskovkin said his brother suffered broken ribs, punctured lungs and disrupted blood flow before he was found in the gardens of Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya, a resort south of Cancun.
After receiving the news, another sibling, Sergey Moskovkin, flew to Cancun. Artem Moskovkin was pronounced dead soon after.
A GoFundMe page created by Igor Moskovkin while his brother was alive has since been updated from a medical expense fund to a funeral fund.
"(The hospital) asked for a down payment of $8,000, which nobody had on them, so they just transferred him to a general public hospital," the brother told KARE 11.
"We have no answers to our questions," Igor Moskovkin told the station. "We don't know what happened whatsoever."
Moskovkin moved to the U.S. from Russia in 1995 and has since become a U.S. citizen, according to the Star Tribune. He served five years in the U.S. Army.
Moskovkin family members didn't immediately return messages on social media requesting comment this week.
