The Prior Lake American Legion baseball team couldn’t muster enough offense to make a deep postseason run.
Fifth-seeded Prior Lake finished 1-2 in the Sub-State 3 tournament, scoring just four runs in its two defeats — 5-1 to top-seeded Edina July 21 and 4-3 to second-seeded Eastview July 22 — to finish the summer with an 11-9 record.
The playoffs started well for Prior Lake with a 7-2 win over fourth-seeded Eden Prairie in the quarterfinals July 20.
The last time Prior Lake made the state legion tournament was back in 2015.
In the win over Eden Prairie, Prior Lake scored three runs in the fifth inning to open up a 6-2 advantage. Nick Allbee worked four innings for the victory, allowing two unearned runs with four strikeouts.
Charles Running got the save with three scoreless innings of relief, striking out three.
PJ Dahl drove in two runs for Prior Lake, going 1 for 3 with a double. Cole Clausen finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored, while Noah Slates went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Jager Leverson and Lance Behrens also drove in runs for Prior Lake, while Dylan Sullivan doubled and scored a run.
In the loss to Edina, Prior Lake was held to just four hits. Charlie Bredeson doubled and drove in the team’s lone run in the third inning. Clausen, Slates and Jaxson Barrett each had singles.
Behrens took the loss on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up five runs (two earned) with four strikeouts. Jack Burley got the final out of the bottom of the sixth inning.
Against Eastview, Prior Lake scored two runs un the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3. Bredeson had the big hit, driving in both runs with a two-out to finish 3 for 4.
Sullivan also drove in a run for Prior Lake, while Ross Hebel and Barrett each had a hit and a run scored.
Trevor Mong took the loss, allowing one run in two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout. Henry Brandt started and gave up three runs on 10 hits in six innings with three strikeouts.
Eastview scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk.
