The Prior Lake baseball team opened the Section 2AAAA playoffs with two thrilling come-from-behind wins.
But the momentum didn't last too long.
The sixth-seeded Lakers lost 5-4 to Eden Prairie in the winners bracket final May 31 at Round Lake Park and then were eliminated June 3 with a 5-2 loss at second-seeded Edina.
Prior Lake finished the season under first-year coach Al Iversen with a 12-12 overall mark (9-9 in the South Suburban Conference).
The Lakers snapped a six-game playoff losing streak in their playoff opener, scoring five times in the top of the seventh inning for a 6-5 win at third-seeded Chanhassen on May 28. Prior Lake followed with a 7-4 win at Edina in the semifinals, erasing an early 4-1 deficit.
In the rematch with Edina, it was a 2-2 game through three innings before the Hornets broke it open with a three-run fourth.
Noah Meffert tossed a complete game for Edina, allowing two runs on seven hits while fanning three. Senior AJ Lattery took the loss for Prior Lake, working five innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Senior Ben Eisenberg pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Lakers with one strikeout.
Senior Sam Tanner and junior Austin Gordon each doubled and scored a run for Prior Lake. Junior Jonah Hoeg and senior Alex Wattermann each had an RBI.
