Five members of the Prior Lake boys golf team qualified for the second round of the Section 2AAA tourney.
The Lakers had a team score of 310 in the first round May 29 at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. The top four teams make the second round and Prior Lake finished sixth.
Chaska and Waconia were tied for first place with a 287 total, followed by Mankato West (298) and Eden Prairie (299). Minnetonka was fifth in the 14-team field (304).
Nineteen individuals not on the four advancing teams qualified for round two, which is June 3 at the Ridges of Sand Creek. Seniors Carter Taney, Matt Peterson and Connor Hofslien, junior Brenden Jore and sophomore Fred Moede were part of that group for Prior Lake.
Jore and Moede led the Lakers in round one with 77s, while Peterson and Taney both shot 78 and Hofslien finished with 79. Senior Luke Vathing also played for Prior Lake and shot 84.
Waconia senior Connor Glynn had the top score after the first round with a 68.
The winning team after 36 holes makes the state field, along with the top five individuals not on advancing squad. The Class 3A state tournament is June 4-5 at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
