The Prior Lake Jays improved to 3-0 on the season with a pair of 5-3 home wins.

The Jays topped the Metro Merchants May 30 and knocked off Highland Park June 2 in two non-league games.

Prior Lake will begin River Valley League play June 7 at home versus LeSueur at 7:30 p.m. The Jays' first Section 3B standings game is June 9 at Chanhassen at 6 p.m.

In the win over the Merchants, Prior Lake took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the fifth inning. Ben Koopman got the win, working five innings and allowing three runs (one earned), while striking out four.

Brandt Broderick pitched three innings of scoreless relief, fanning five. Zach Matthews got the first two outs of the ninth inning, while Mitchell Goodwin got the final out.

Goodwin and Adam Cress each doubled and scored a run. Jeff Butler and Rob Frederick both had two RBIs, while Tommy Keating finished 2 for 4 with an RBI. 

In beating Highland Park, the Jays scored four times in the fifth inning to go up 5-0. 

Brett Mitchell pitched three scoreless innings for the win, striking out six. Sam Schlatcher allowed three runs (two earned) in three inning of work, fanning two. Lawson Zenner got the save, working three scoreless frames, striking out four.

Goodwin homered and drove in three runs to lead the Jays' offense. Keating was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, while Corey Goodwin and Mitchell were both 1 for 3 with a run scored.
