The Prior Lake Mudcats ended the month of the June with a tough road loss.

The Mudcats fell 12-1 at Montgomery June 30 in Dakota-Rice-Scott League play, the team's third straight defeat.

Prior Lake (10-9 overall) had its non-league game at Waterville July 2 cancelled due to wet field conditions. The Mudcats will be back on the diamond July 10 at home versus St. Benedict in DRS play at 7:30 p.m.

The Mudcats are home to both Lonsdale July 11 and Veseli July 17. Both league contests start at 7:30 p.m. Prior Lake will end the regular season July 21 at New Prague in DRS play at 2 p.m.

The 12-team Region 3C playoffs start July 24. The top four seeds get a bye to the second round, while seeds No. 5 through 12 will be paired up to play a three-game series with the winners advancing to the second round.

The Mudcats are in position to get a top-four seed with a strong finish. New Market, St. Patrick and Montgomery also look to be top four seeds.

In the loss to Montgomery, Prior Lake trailed 3-0 after the first inning and gave up eight runs in the fourth inning to trail 11-1.

Ben Morrison took the loss for Prior Lake, working four innings and allowing 11 runs (eight earned), while striking out four. Jake Schmidt pitched two innings of relief, giving up an unearned run.

Greg Faue drove in the Mudcats' lone run. Cole Bjorge finished 2 for 4 with a run scored. Jake Lehrer also had a pair of hits.

Prior Lake won the Region 3C title in 2016 for its third state berth in six seasons. But the team has fallen short the last two summers.
