A body found in a drainage ditch on Saturday is believed to be Adam Michael Rein, 24, who was reported missing to the Buffalo Lake Police Department on Thursday, June 5, according to a release from the Renville County Sheriff’s Office.
Burnsville-Eagan-Savage district communications confirmed that Rein attended Rahn Elementary and Metcalf Junior High before graduating from Burnsville High School in 2012.
He was last seen leaving a business in Hector on Tuesday evening. A friend reported him missing on Thursday, July 5 and that evening, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a submerged vehicle in Hector Township. Responders saw a disruption in the water’s current and recovered the vehicle, which they found unoccupied and determined it belonged to Rein.
On Friday morning, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo Lake Police Department, Hector Police Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources searched for Rein using a drone and boat. The search expanded to include the Buffalo Lake Fire Department’s water rescue team, the Hector Fire Department, Northstar Search and Rescue and a local aviator.
Around noon on Saturday, the body of an adult male was located in a drainage ditch approximately one mile downstream from where the vehicle was recovered. The body was sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification confirmation, according to Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable.
Hable said the investigation is not criminal in nature at this point and it is believed to be an accidental death.
