Grease Monkey, a vehicle maintenance and lube chain, has opened its first Minnesota location in Savage.

The shop opened for business in September but held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Savage Mayor Janet Williams and the Savage Chamber of Commerce early Thursday. Ribbon cuttings with Prior Lake and Burnsville officials followed later in the day.

The shop offers oil changes that include checking multiple fluids and filters, checks for lights and tires, vacuuming of the interior and washing exterior windows. It also offers tire rotations and related services.

Expected finish times for maintenance are posted on TV screens in the waiting area, with the shop guaranteeing maintenance will be done on time and paying a dollar for every minute over.

Grease Monkey stands on Huntington Avenue near Egan Drive and Burnsville Parkway, behind Taco John’s.

Casey Romano, who co-owns the business with her husband, Curtis, said the building was previously owned by the neighboring Paradise Full Service Car Wash & Detail Center. It wasn’t even for sale when Curtis Romano approached the owner to buy it, she said.

Williams said she had been watching the business’s renovations to the building with interest for weeks.

“I’m just thrilled they’re here,” she said.

Romano said business has been building steadily since the opening. The shop is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, though she said it could soon add Sunday as well.
