Parent Aware — a Minnesota organization that helps families find quality care and education — recently announced that St. John’s Steppingstones Preschool in Savage had earned a four-star rating, which is the highest possible score that the group issues.
The Parent Aware Star Ratings are based on demonstrated use of research-based best practices that prepare children for kindergarten. Programs that volunteer to be rated are said to be going above and beyond the state’s required health and safety requirements, and ratings help families to easily identify and find the quality care and education their children need to succeed in school and in life.
According to a press release, a four-star rating confirms that Steppingstones Preschool and its staff:
- are committed to school readiness by using best practices in child assessment, and always working toward making instruction more individualized, stimulating and language-rich in order to promote critical thinking.
- have education credentials, are committed to ongoing professional development and have volunteered for training in the following: key areas of children’s development; cultural and socio-economic differences between families; practices that support inclusion; offering healthy meals; and engaging children in physical activity and active play.
- develop strong relationships with families by doing the following: sharing assessment results, helping them access family support services, and providing information in parents’ primary languages.
