Prior Lake High School student Aidan Becken won a $2,500 National Merit Scholarship, according to a news release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The organization awarded scholarships to 2,500 students around the country, a group narrowed down from the hundreds of thousands of students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in fall 2017. Of those, 15,000 students were finalists for the awards.
The awards are based on academic performance, leadership and involvement in school activities and school staff recommendations, according to the news release.
Becken was among 45 who earned the $2,500 scholarship in Minnesota. He told the corporation he plans to go into the medical field.
