Residents in Savage and Burnsville can use the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority's on-demand rideshare service starting this month, the organization announced this week.

The service allows riders to arrange rides online or using the Microtransit app, according to a news release. It runs 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and can carry riders to the Burnsville Transit Station and Burnsville Mall.

Fares are $4 and come with fixed-route transfers.

The pilot program could expand to Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan and Rosemount in Dakota County and Savage, Prior Lake and Shakopee in Scott County based on its use, the authority said.

"We are always working to identify new options to meet the needs of our riders,” said Luther Wynder, the authority's executive director, said in a statement.

The authority also runs a park-and-ride location in Savage on Huntington Avenue with service to the Burnsville station and Minneapolis.
