Investigators believe the two young adults killed in a crash in Burnsville earlier this month were hit by a vehicle involved in “racing” on County Road 42, police said last week.

In a Twitter post, the Burnsville Police Department said they believe two vehicles were racing eastbound on County Road 42 before the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

Another vehicle turned from westbound County Road 42 to go south on Newton Avenue and was struck by one of the racing vehicles, the department stated.

Dalton Lee Ford and Tayler Nicole Garza, both 22, died of multiple blunt force injuries, according the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

In an email, Burnsville Police Capt. Matt Smith confirmed Ford and Garza were inside the vehicle that had been turning onto Newton Avenue.

Two 17-year-olds were injured in the crash and transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, according to police.

The speed of the eastbound vehicle at the time of the crash hasn’t yet been determined, according to Smith.

“We do continue to investigate, and charges, if applicable, will be determined by the appropriate attorney’s office,” he wrote.
