Angela Le

won the 100 butterfly for Burnsville at the Section 2AA meet Nov. 13 at Hidden Oaks Middle School to qualify for state in that event for a fifth straight year. She was also second in the 100 backstroke.

For the fifth straight year, Angela Le has earned state spots in two individual events.

The senior on the Burnsville girls swimming team earned the bids in the Section 2AA finals Nov. 13 at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Prior Lake, winning the 100 butterfly and finishing runner-up in the 100 backstroke.

Le was the lone qualifier for the Blaze as the team ended up sixth in the team standings with 124 points. Third-ranked Minnetonka dominated the field, winning with 616 points, followed by No. 6 Eden Prairie (363), Prior Lake (306), Chanhassen (244) and Chaska (242).

Bloomington Jefferson was seventh (104), while Shakopee was eighth (82).

The Class AA state meet is set Nov. 19-20 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Both days start at 6 p.m.

Last year, Le was third in the 100 butterfly at state and ninth in the 100 backstroke. She already holds the school records in both of those events — 55.60 in the 100 butterfly and 56.28 in the 100 backstroke.

Le has been in the top seven at state in the 100 butterfly four times, including third as a sophomore, fifth as a ninth-grader and seventh as an eighth-grader. She was also fifth in the 100 backstroke as a sophomore and as a ninth-grader and 17th as an eighth-grader.

At this year's section meet, Le won the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.18. Her runner-up time in the 100 backstroke was 56.68.

The top-two finishers in the individual events automatically qualify for state, along with the winning relay team. The other way to get there is by time standard.

Burnsville didn't have any other individuals swimming in the finals (top eight), but had nine swims in the consolation heat (top 16).

In the relays, Burnsville's 200 medley team of ninth-graders Hanna Holmstrom and Erin Bachmeier, senior Sidney Christopherson and Le finished fifth with a time of 1:51.99. The state cut is 1:50.99.

The 200 freestyle relay team of juniors Jamie Clem and Haley Pajunen, eighth-grader Kayla Gant and sophomore Sydney Dahl was sixth (1:44.79). The 400 freestyle relay was disqualified.

Other finishes for the Blaze in the consolation heats: Dahl in the 200 freestyle (10th, 1:59.44) and the 100 freestyle (12th, 55.73), Christopherson in the 200 individual medley (16th, 2:20.42) and the 100 breaststroke (13th, 1:11.99), Gant in the 50 freestyle (12th, 25.90), Bachmeier in the 50 freestyle (15th, 26.09) and the 100 breaststroke (11th, 1:10.64), Holmstrom in the 100 backstroke (15th, 1:03.66) and ninth-grader Natasha Shonewill in the 100 backstroke (16th, 1:05.66).
