Big Fish Works is a second-generation, family-owned, Minnesota company that has 11 established community newspapers, a successful digital agency and commercial printing operations. Current family ownership of Big Fish Works runs back nearly 50 years.

The lineage of the Shakopee Valley News can be traced to the Valley Herald, the name first used in the late 1850s, and the Shakopee Argus, founded in 1861.
The Shakopee Valley News is published by Southwest News Media, an affiliate of Red Wing Publishing Company. Red Wing Publishing is now known as Big Fish Works.
