Golden shovel; ground breaking; breaking ground

Sand Companies is proposing a 58-unit affordable mixed-use building on a vacant lot off Crossings Boulevard, near the Marcus movie theater and McCoy’s Copper Pint in Shakopee.

The facility would house residential apartments on the upper level and retail commercial space on the first floor.

Shakopee Planning and Development Director Michael Kerski said in order for the proposal to go through, it would require an amendment to the Planned Unit Development for that area, which is in the Tax Increment Financing District next to the Copper Pint.

No plans for the mixed-use building have been submitted yet, but Kerski said the city council approved the project’s application to the Minnesota Housing Finance agency. Kerski said the city council passed a resolution in support of the project’s application.
