VICTORIA — Several homes were burglarized and two vehicles stolen last week in what could be part of a string of burglaries across the metropolitan area.
The Carver County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls beginning at 5:45 a.m. on June 13, according to a press release from the department.
One of the vehicles was recovered; the other vehicle is still missing.
Deputies took several burglary reports; the suspect or suspects gained access to vehicles and houses through unsecured or unlocked doors, not forced entry, the release said.
The suspects in multiple recent burglaries target unlocked vehicles with garage door openers inside. They use the opener to gain access to the garage and residence. Those thought to be responsible often steal a vehicle or vehicles from the garage to continue their spree, multiple police departments have said.
The group also enters occupied residences very quickly, taking items while residents are generally asleep.
Because the suspects commit crimes in vehicles not yet reported stolen, they have been incredibly difficult to catch in the act, police said.
“We ask our residents to be diligent about locking vehicles, all entrances to homes, and removing garage door openers and valuables from vehicles left outside,” the press release said.
